It’s been awhile since I’ve read a vampire book!  Tracy Auerbach has put a new twist and interesting elements into this genre.

The Human Cure is about a girl named Kate (although we don’t meet her until chapter three) who is living a rather dull life when she meets a handsome stranger with navy blue eyes and incredibly white teeth in a bar. After Hunter introduces himself, asks her to dinner and then brings her back to his hotel room, she realizes that instead of the one night stand, she’s been drugged and about to be kidnapped. When she wakes up, what she finds in this underground city below Queens is far beyond her wildest imagination.

While this is a new take on vampirism and is meant to be a quick read, the characters are underdeveloped making the story feel rushed. Kate is a main character along with Chase and Hunter, but she is dull and flighty in comparison. It is apparent from their intro that Hunter and Chase have a long standing animosity, but it is ignored until the end of the story when it all comes crashing together in the big grand finale chapter.

Overall I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars. If you are looking for a new perspective on an old legend, then give The Human Cure a read. I’d love to hear what you think of this book!
